What is Pilates?

Based on these six principles Joseph Pilates developed Pilates as a holistic approach to physical wellbeing, aiming to achieve both physical and mental health. With an emphasis on length throughout the body, rather than muscle bulk, Pilates aims to address postural habits and body alignment in order to achieve ease of movement.
By increasing body awareness and strength within the deep postural muscles Pilates is often used to assist rehabilitation, prevent back pain and other injuries, as well as helping to relieve stress and improve coordination.
